Windshield Woes

A simple chip. That’s how it began. My dysfunctional relationship with my windshield.

Not this year.

Only one deductible per year.

It was two deductibles last year. There was the chip. Then there was the fix. Then right after that, another chip. AAAARRRGGHHHH. But fix it I did. Because my vehicle was leased and the lease was up and of course it had to be fixed.

But not this year.

So the newly acquired chip in the first months of the new leased car sat.

And then shortly after the chip….a small crack about 4 inches north of the chip appeared. Just to taunt me. Is it enough for me to blow my deductible? After all, there are 18 months left on the lease…..

And each day as I pondered, the crack began to move. A little blip up and then a dip down.

I began to wonder what kind of design could be created if I just left it to its own devices—you know—if I didn’t hold a blow dryer on high, smack up against it, when it was 15 below outside just to move it along and get my deductible’s worth….

But somehow we settled into a weird kind of symbiotic relationship. Although there were some ups and downs things leveled out. Ever since I made a deal with it—go ahead—go wild—but once you get to the other side—we’re done. I’m replacing you. And ever since then….. barely any movement. No wildness. No blips up. No dips down. Steadiness. Reliability. Dependability. I get in. There it is.

--So, hey there. You still here? How long you gonna’ hang around? I thought we’d be done by now? How much progress you think you’re gonna’ make today? I thought we’d be farther along by now.

--I guess I could of course just replace you. But we’ve come so far for so long. And I’m still not sure what turns our relationship might take. What amazing pattern awaits? Or is it this…. remaining steady until the natural end?
